I replaced the two squeaking (it was more than squeaking) pulleys today on the Safari, but now it squeaks constantly at any speed. I sprayed belt dressing on it because my dad said that would help, made it worse.

What. The. Hell. I'm done with this motor and everything attached to it.

I'll just drive around with the radio loud so I can't hear the squeaking. At least it was nice and quiet on the drive back to my home school, it started about halfway home this afternoon.

I'm sorry I've been complaining about my car so much, I'm just so frustrated with it lately.

Have a one of my possible replacement cars when the time comes. I've even found one for sale that was black with beige leather and in really good condition.

Kinja'd!!!

I was certainly getting angry changing those pulleys. I was swearing off GM, the 4.3L V6, whoever designed the Safari, and whoever bolted those pulleys on in the factory. Me dropping the wrench about 20 times make me even more pissed off. It was not a good experience, and I cut my arm on my fan.

You think a pulley is bad? Try replacing the (100% failure prone) plastic intake manifold gasket on that damn thing. Did one just a couple weeks ago on the neighbor's 2000 Astro

Luckily (kinda) my 4.3 isn't a Vortec, so I don't have that. At least I don't think.

QX4s are nice. I'd buy one. I still might. Make sure to get an '01-up so you get the VQ V6 with 240 hp instead of the older one with like 160-something hp.

Alternatively, the '02-'04 Pathfinder LE is almost identical. It has regular halogen headlamps instead of the QX4's HIDs, no wood trim on the steering wheel, and heated front seats only (the QX4 has heated rear seats as well).

The one I found was a 2002, so it has the VQ. I'm actually making sure I only look at '01 and up so I get the VQ.

I've looked at Pathfinders too. I'm looking at almost anything right now SUV wise really.

I approve on the Infiniti! Have you talked with your parents about dumping the van?

I've been looking at the aforementioned VQ Pathfinder/QX4, and also the '99-'02 4Runner Limited. The 4Runner isn't as comfy and is slower, but it's got a bit more versatile 4wd system, especially if you get the optional rear locking diff. I'm dicking around on price for one with the rear locker at a local dealer, but they're asking a ridiculous price.

I'm looking to get rid of my current winter SUV which is a Grand Cherokee and needs a bunch of work. Hence the Japanese options.

Someone I swam with back in high school had a similar deal with his parents you get a new car but only when the old one dies.

Well, long story short, when you wish for your car to die, it will spite you and live for longer. That first gen C class is still going, 3 years after that deal was made.

Dear god, a first gen C-class lasting that long?

It was rusting pretty decently, and had over 200,000 miles. But still going.

Did you replace the tensioner?

The tensioner pulley, but not the tensioner.

The tensioner could be weak. The one in my Sierra was the fix to my squeaky belt.

After the hell I had to go through to get it off in the first place, I'll just let it squeak its self away.
